The Meyerland Area Democrats Club hosted HISD District VIII Board Trustee Juliet Stipeche at its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 15. A good-sized crowd listened intently as Stipeche discussed ramifications of the state budget cuts on education. Stipeche emphasized the importance of grass-roots engagement between local schools and their communities, and also described the impact of letters from the community to school board members. A number of candidates for local positions also introduced themselves to the group, in addition to the Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress District 7, Philip Andrews.
