August 15, 2016 Meeting to feature former Press Secretary to Gov. Ann Richards - Margaret Justus
We have a special guest for our August 15th meeting- Margaret Justus- who knew Ann Richards well ,playing a key role in her campaigns, and who worked for the Clintons. She will talk about how Ann Richards’ 1990 run vs GOP’s Clayton Williams holds lessons for 2016 and Hillary Clinton.
We will also hear from a handful of national delegates, including President Art Pronin, Mary Luckey and a few more.
Margaret Justus of Justus Communications LLC has more than 25 years of communications experience including 10 years in broadcast journalism and has served as an important player in numerous statewide and national campaigns as strategist, spokesperson, writer and producer.
In addition to serving as a political commentator on Houston Public Media's public affairs program Red, White and Blue and Fox 26's Isaiah Factor, some of her current and previous clients include the Texas Lyceum, the statewide leadership group focused on cultivating the next generation of Texas leaders, WGU (Western Governor’s University) Texas, the online, non-profit, competency-based university, Generation Texas (GenTX), the Leadership Conference on Human and Civil Rights and Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis' campaign for Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 1.
Ms. Justus played a key role in Texas Governor Ann Richards' 1989 - 1990 winning Texas gubernatorial race and as a press secretary in Richards’ office from 1991 - 1994. She also served as the Texas Press Secretary for the Clinton/Gore 1996 reelection campaign and led communication efforts in additional statewide political campaigns including John Bryant for U.S. Senate, Paul Hobby for Texas Comptroller, Kirk Watson for Texas Attorney General, Save Our Schools and Texans for Tier One Campaign.
Currently, in addition to her media and public affairs consulting work, Ms. Justus serves on the volunteer boards of the Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park and the Baylor Partnership. She is also on the advisory board of the Hermann Park Conservancy and was elected to serve on the Southampton Civic Club Board from 2009 - 2014.
As is customary, the meeting will be held at Fadi's Mediterranean Grill located at 4738 Beechnut, Houston 77096 (across from Meyerland Plaza). Dinner is at at 6:30 pm and the meeting will start PROMPTLY at 7:00 pm. There is no charge to attend, but attendees pay for their own food and drinks.
